Introductory:
Well if any part of the RF service spectrum has critical needs, it’s this one. MATV
systems (Master Antenna Television), is very tricky. In past years, you could
always tell if a TV system had problems because the pictures looked clear, had ghosts
or were snowy. As the digital age becomes the standard way of transmission, large
properties won’t realize the impact of the digital change until July 13th. On that
Saturday, many property’s Televisions will either continue to work correctly or
have some trouble. The tricky part is when it has trouble, properly diagnosing the
trouble. Because only companies like Andtech, equipped with the right products and
Know how will be able to pinpoint the problem. Only a select few will be able to
determine if your problem is a BER (Bit Error Rate) problem or a signal level concern
to name two! This is where even with all the best talent available, if properties
haven’t prepared for this change, you might be off the air for weeks or even longer.
So if you manage properties where Televisions are connected to antennas or you aren’t
sure, please do everyone a favor, get it checked out early as like everything else
if we wait till the last minute, Parts and Labor may not be immediately available
leaving you in the snow!!
Background:
Private Cable TV systems were brought about when Traditional cable TV companies
raised rates excessively. Larger complex owners figured they could offer TV services,
include the fees in their tenant’s rent and make a small profit thus compete with
the huge Cable operators. Cable companies had monopolies, and no other options were
available so the cable companies could charge what they wanted to building owners.
That was until Satellite dealers saved the day. These multi-dwelling properties
could now act as a partner in providing TV services. Property owners shared in the
profits, while offering, in many cases, strategic channel lineups to their residents.
Although this was great option and in most cases even better, the public demanded
more choices and services. This increased channel lineup requirement made it tough
for the private Cable industry to compete.
Now:
Today, after Cable Companies have invested millions to address their customer’s
demands for High Speed internet and more than a hundred TV channels, today the real
competitor to Cable is the MaBells who are updating their system’s capabilities
and DBS providers like DirecTV and DISH Network. The hassle factor of trying to
keep up with demand for new channels turned out to be just too great for the small
provider. Today, the real benefactor for Private Cable Systems is Motels, Hotels
and Hospitals. As the hotel industry (like the others) will attest to, it is very
expensive to run their operation and being charged for empty rooms at Cable TV company
rates is not practical. Their savior is the Private operator. With a quality Private
system, they can provide only channels that appeal to their clients needs (and only
pay for them). The get the free local channels and pay only for the channels they
want. It may sound confusing, but the money they can save is not! So if you’re a
private complex, Hotel, Motel or Hospital, give us a call to save hundreds or thousands
of dollars a year.
And if you’re concerned with the new Digital TV conversion, we can help with that
too!
